Lessons by Kristina
As a student of the New York City Department of Education, Kristina Thompson witnessed firsthand the things that worked really well and the things that did not work at all. Instead of leaving the gaps to fix themselves, Kristina decided to become a teacher and made it a point to return to her neighborhood to teach. She has been an educator with the New York City Department of Education since 2016.
Kristina’s passion for education stems from her personal experiences and a desire to see a better future for her children. She believes it starts with improving our educational systems. In addition to teaching, Kristina coaches a local Step team and is an avid participant in arts-centered programs.
A core principle of her personal pedagogical perspective is building relationships between teacher and student that allow for engaging conversations and active learning to take place. She believes the arts are one way to achieve this goal.
