While the technology focus of this lesson may be of high interest to students, that investment could also result in charged emotions. This lesson asks students to engage with some big questions and consider the types of harm ineffective or unregulated AI technologies can cause. Students may already have strong opinions on these questions or they may have already experienced some of these harms. It will be important to reinforce your classroom expectations around active listening, assuming good intentions, and remaining open to different perspectives. The lesson is adaptable and can be completed by students working independently, in pairs, or in larger groups. Choose the approach that best helps empower students to share their ideas while allowing you to monitor and assist with emotional regulation if needed.
